HOUGHTON — Good weather has allowed work on Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center to really pick up in the past few weeks.
A mason has begun working on enclosing the facility while other crews are putting in interior partitions and paving the surrounding driveway. On the side of the building, a stationary dock, which will be used by research boats, is taking shape.
The facility will also include a floating dock.
“The weather’s cooperating and all the pieces are falling into place,” said Assistant Facilities Manager Jim Heikkinen. ”We’re relying on the expertise of Granger and the expertise of the subcontractors and our architect to do the things they do so well.”
Interior work will continue throughout the winter.
The project is scheduled to finish next spring.
